SoCode is partnering with a Cambridge-area technology and communications business that develops advanced electronic systems for defence, aerospace and other high-performance sectors. They’re seeking a Contract Mechanical Design Engineer to design sub-modules and enclosures for integration onto an airborne platform.

The role sits between mechanical, electronics and RF teams, taking designs from concept to manufacture and working with suppliers for rapid turnaround.

Qualifications

• Strong, recent experience using Creo Parametric for detailed mechanical design.
• Experience with Windchill/PDMLink for product data management.
• Experience with Creo Advanced Assembly Extension (AAX).
• Proven background in electro-mechanical design and electronic packaging.
• Good knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, injection moulding, casting, rapid prototyping).
• Confident dealing directly with suppliers and manufacturers.

Responsibilities

• Designing mechanical sub-modules and enclosures for integration onto an airborne platform.
• Developing aerodynamic enclosures and structures for the platform’s operating environment.
• Packaging PCBs, harnesses and control electronics into robust mechanical assemblies.
• Collaborating with RF and electronics engineers on RF-ready enclosures.
• Producing 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings in Creo, managed through Windchill.
• Choosing materials and manufacturing methods for each part.
• Working with manufacturers and suppliers to secure fast turnaround on prototypes and production parts.
• Supporting design reviews and preparing designs for build and integration.

Contract Mechanical Design Engineer – Outside IR35
Socode are partnering with a Cambridge-area technology and communications business that develops advanced electronic systems for defence, aerospace and other high-performance sectors. They’re looking to bring in a Contract Mechanical Design Engineer to design sub-modules and enclosures for integration onto an airborne platform.
This is a hands-on design role sitting between the mechanical, electronics and RF engineering teams. You’ll take designs from concept through to manufacture and work closely with suppliers to keep turnaround fast. The work suits an experienced contractor who can get up to speed quickly.
What will you be doing?

• Designing mechanical sub-modules and enclosures for integration onto an airborne platform
• Developing aerodynamic enclosures and structures that suit the platform’s operating environment
• Packaging PCBs, harnesses and control electronics into robust mechanical assemblies
• Working with RF and electronics engineers on enclosures that house sensitive RF hardware
• Producing 3D models, assemblies and detailed drawings in Creo, managed through Windchill
• Choosing suitable materials and manufacturing methods for each part
• Working with manufacturers and suppliers to secure fast turnaround on prototype and production parts
• Supporting design reviews and helping prepare designs for build and integration

What are they looking for?

Nice to have

• Experience designing aerodynamic enclosures or for airborne/aerospace platforms
• Exposure to radomes, RF or microwave hardware
• EMC/RFI screening experience
• Background in defence, aerospace or other List X / secure environments
