Job summary

World Class Defence Organisation is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer on an initial 12‑month contract in Stevenage. Strong Creo/PRO‑E skills and a defence/aerospace background are essential, with hybrid work (4 days onsite, 1 day remote).

You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop components for missiles, perform design reviews, and support manufacturing to resolve issues. Inside IR35 umbrella arrangement applies.

Qualifications

• Experience using Creo 3D design tool.
• Knowledge of defence standards and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with design for manufacture/assembly and FMEA.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical design and proving activities for parts and assemblies.
• Support manufacturing to resolve problems and defects.
• Assist with functional and environmental testing and trials.
• Liaise with suppliers to resolve technical queries.
• Plan and report day-to-day activities to meet milestones.
• Clarify and help generate requirements to reduce lead time and design complexity.

World Class Defence Organisation is currently looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer subcontractors on an initial 12 month contract.

This role would suit a Mechanical Design Engineer who comes from a strong Defence or Aerospace background has strong Creo / PRO-E skills.

Job Title:Mechanical Design Engineer

Rate:£50.00 per hour

Location: Stevenage

Hybrid / Remote working: 4 days a week likely onsite (likely could be lower on a week by week basis; depending on work). 1 day remote. (flexible on start and finish time).

Contract:37 Hours per week

Overtime: Hours worked over 37 hours per week will be calculated at ‘time and a quarter’

Duration:6 Months (initially and then ongoing and long-term thereafter)

IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella)

Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description:

An opportunity to become part of Europe’s No. 1 Missile Systems Designer, as a Mechanical Design Engineer. You will work closely with other functional teams, to develop products to meet our customer’s needs. Within this role you will have the opportunity to undertake cutting-edge research of novel mechanical technologies to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Responsibilities:

• Carry out Mechanical Design and proving activities as part of a wider team for prime and variant products, of both piece parts and assemblies.
• Support/liaise with manufacturing, resolving manufacturing problems & defects.
• Support to functional & environmental testing and trials.
• Liaise with suppliers/purchasing to resolve any technical queries that may arise.
• Planning and reporting on own day-to-day activities to meet project milestones.
• Gain clarification of and help to generate requirements, including challenging of extraneous requirements to reduce lead time, UPC and design complexity
