Job summary

Stepping Stone Projects is seeking a Night Concierge Officer to cover overnight shifts across Orrell Road, Wigan and Lord Street, Leigh. You will be responsible for the safety and security of temporary accommodation, responding to incidents and assisting residents to progress toward independence.

You will work overnight on a seven-day rota, with a focus on compassionate support, maintaining secure premises, and coordinating with colleagues to deliver high-quality services across both locations.

Qualifications

• Experience in working with vulnerable people, including those with challenging backgrounds.
• Ability to use computerised systems in a busy environment.
• Confident handling of conflict situations with calm professionalism.
• Flexible and cooperative approach, including seven-day rota work.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security of accommodation services via CCTV, site checks and access control.
• Provide a visible, reassuring presence and respond to residents’ queries and welfare concerns.
• Handle incidents, emergencies and alarms calmly and escalate as needed.
• Monitor communal areas and support residents to maintain a safe living environment.
• Complete accurate incident reports, handover notes and health and safety records.

40.25 hours per week (night shifts) between the hours of 9.30pm – 9.30am on a shift pattern basis

As a Concierge Officer at Stepping Stone Projects, you’ll play a key role in keeping our temporary accommodation services safe, secure and well-managed during the night. Working as part of a dedicated team, you’ll provide a visible presence within our schemes, respond to incidents and emergencies, and help create an environment where customers can focus on rebuilding their lives and moving towards independence.

About the role

Working overnight, you’ll be the reassuring presence that helps keep our accommodation services safe, calm and well-managed. You’ll support residents with compassion and professionalism, while ensuring properties remain secure, responding to incidents and helping maintain a stable environment where customers can focus on moving forward.

You’ll be based across our projects in Wigan and Leigh, supporting men who have experienced homelessness and have a local connection to the Wigan and Leigh area. The services provide accommodation for 5 customers at Wigan and 6 customers at Leigh, offering a structured and supportive environment that helps individuals address a range of needs and prepare for a successful move into longer-term housing.

What you’ll be doing

• Maintaining the safety and security of our accommodation services through CCTV monitoring, regular site checks and controlling access to premises.
• Providing a visible and reassuring presence for residents, responding professionally to queries, concerns and welfare issues as they arise.
• Managing incidents, emergencies and alarm activations calmly and effectively, escalating where appropriate.
• Monitoring communal areas and supporting residents to maintain a safe, respectful and well-managed living environment.
• Completing accurate incident reports, handover notes and health and safety records, ensuring important information is effectively communicated to colleagues.
• Working closely with colleagues and external partners to help deliver high-quality accommodation services that support positive move-on outcomes for residents.

About you

We’re looking for someone who is confident, observant and motivated by making a positive difference. You’ll be able to build professional relationships with residents, manage situations with empathy and professionalism, and take a practical approach to maintaining a safe and secure environment.

We would love to hear from you if you have:

• Experience in working in any of the following fields: supported housing, housing advice work or work supporting homeless people.
• Experience in dealing with vulnerable people from possible problematic background.
• Experience in using computerised systems frequently, in a busy working environment.
• Ability to work with customers who have complex needs and who may be challenging to work with, and to respond to conflict situations in a calm yet firm manner.
• Versatile, flexible, and co-operative approach to work.
• The flexibility to provide out-of-hours and overnight security, safety and emergency response support as part of a seven-day rota.
• A full UK Drivers Licence and daily access to a vehicle.
