Job summary

Avery Healthcare Group is seeking a warm, enthusiastic Sous Chef to join Alice Court Care Home in Eastbourne. You will support the Head Chef in leading a culinary team to deliver nutritionally balanced, high‑quality meals for residents within budget.

Key duties include preparing modified diets per IDDSI, supervising culinary staff, ensuring high hygiene standards, and helping the team understand Avery's food safety system. DBS check and UK work eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• Hold a relevant catering qualification – City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ or equivalent.
• Have a minimum of 1 year of catering experience.
• Demonstrate compassion and commitment to the delivery of high‑quality culinary services to residents.
• Be adaptable and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities at short notice.

Responsibilities

• Preparing modified diets that look appealing and are well-balanced and in accordance with IDDSI guidance.
• Supervising and directing the work of culinary staff, as directed by the Head Chef, providing instruction and demonstration to unqualified staff on simple food preparation activities.
• Understanding the principles of safe food handling to ensure that all food preparation undertaken in the kitchen meets the highest hygiene standards.
• Supporting all culinary team members in fully understanding the Avery Food safety management system.
