Job summary

Avery Healthcare Group is seeking a dedicated Sous Chef to join Hempstalls Hall Care Home in Newcastle under Lyme. You will support the Head Chef, lead a culinary team, and ensure a nutritionally balanced, high-quality dining service for residents.

You’ll prepare modified diets per IDDSI guidance, supervise kitchen staff, maintain high hygiene standards, and help uphold Avery Food Safety policies. DBS check will be arranged by Avery, with eligibility to work in the UK required.

Qualifications

• Hold relevant catering qualification – City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ or equivalent.
• Have a minimum of 1 year of catering experience.
• Demonstrate compassion and commitment to high-quality culinary services to residents.
• Be adaptable to cover a range of responsibilities at short notice.

Responsibilities

• Support the head chef in leading a culinary team to deliver high-quality meals within budget.
• Prepare modified diets that are appealing and balanced per IDDSI guidance.
• Supervise and direct the work of culinary staff, training unqualified staff on simple food preparation activities.
• Ensure safe food handling to meet hygiene standards and support Avery Food Safety management system.
