Job summary

GSL Education Hull Branch is seeking a Learning Support Assistant in York to support students with additional needs in a specialist educational setting. The role involves one-to-one and small group support, with a focus on ASC and SEND needs, and maintaining a calm, inclusive classroom environment.

The ideal candidate will be resilient, patient, adaptable and committed to safeguarding while building positive relationships with students and staff.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, Autism or additional learning needs is highly desirable.
• An understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with a range of learning and additional needs.
• Assist students with ASC and other SEND needs to access lessons and school activities.
• Adapt learning activities and use appropriate communication strategies for individual profiles.
• Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, confidence and independence.
• Monitor student engagement and progress and share observations with teachers and the wider support team.
• Contribute to a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe and supported.
