Job summary

Leeds GATE is seeking a Community Development Worker to support Gypsy and Traveller communities across Calderdale & Wakefield. You will build trusted relationships with residents and families, run group activities and campaigns, and help develop opportunities to share ideas and improve wellbeing.

The role emphasizes safeguarding, equality, and staff values, with a pro-active approach to outreach and engagement across two areas.

Community Development Worker- Calderdale & Wakefield
  • 5% employer contribution pension, with an additional 5% employee contribution. Leave; 28 days plus 14 Bank Holidays (pro rata)

We run a number ofa communityfacing and strategic projects to achieve our aims including advocacy, community development and youth work.Those who access our services and activities are members of Leeds GATE.

Work across Wakefield and Calderdale you will build trusted relationships with Leeds GATE members, residents and families living on a local authority site, yards, houses and roadside.

Through your relationships you will gain understanding of people’sstrengths,interestsandhobbies, whilst alsobuilding up knowledge of the needs of support, barriers and issues faced by Gypsies and Travellers.

As a community developmentworkeryou will help to develop and create opportunities to engage the community, such asactivities and group work, thinking how these can help people to share their ideas, develop their skills, build confidence and empower them, as well asimproving healthandwellbeing outcomes toenable better lives.Supportingwith our outreach and engagement with families across the 2 areas.
