Job description

We connect people with what’s happening in their community, develop community ideas into action, strengthen local organisations, and provide strategic influence for the charity and voluntary sector.

The Action Together team is vital in achieving the charity's purpose - to maximise opportunities to create positive social change; promote social justice and harness social benefit; and to strengthen the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sector.

We're looking for people who share our values to join our team.

The role

This post will join our existing Community Development team and will play a key role in building capacity in Oldham’s communities. You will support local people to turn their ideas into action and will strengthen existing local Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) organisations through providing organisational development support, networking spaces and training.

As a Community Development Worker, you will also connect people to what’s happening in their community, promote the great work of the VCFSE sector with local stakeholders, and help more people get connected and feel proud to live in Oldham.

The ideal candidate

You’ll be passionate about tackling inequality and promoting social justice through inclusive, asset‑based community development. You’ll have experience working with people, community groups and VCFSE organisations to identify strengths, facilitate conversations, and turn ideas into meaningful action.

You’ll be an experienced facilitator who is confident navigating differences, appropriately challenging where needed, and building strong, trusting relationships across diverse communities and partner organisations. You’ll understand what helps organisations develop and thrive, with experience supporting governance, funding, planning and partnership working.

You’ll be organised and able to manage competing priorities, produce clear and accessible reports, and use systems to evidence impact. You’ll be comfortable representing and advocating for the VCFSE sector, you’ll bring professionalism and a collaborative mindset to your work across Oldham.
