Job summary

Morgan Hunt UK Limited is recruiting a Communication Support Worker for an East London college from September. You will provide BSL support to deaf and hearing-impaired learners in classrooms, helping access lessons and participate fully.

The role involves collaborating with lecturers and Learning Support, adapting communication methods to learners’ needs, and maintaining records while upholding safeguarding and confidentiality. This is a temporary contract in a welcoming FE environment.

Qualifications

  • Recognised British Sign Language qualification, Level 2 or 3.
  • Experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired learners.
  • Experience in Further Education, SEND or similar setting.
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willingness to obtain.

Responsibilities

  • Provide communication support using British Sign Language.
  • Support deaf and hearing-impaired learners during lessons and activities.
  • Ensure information from lecturers is clearly communicated and understood.
  • Adapt communication methods to individual learner needs.
  • Encourage learners to develop confidence, independence and communication skills.
  • Collaborate with teaching and Learning Support teams.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow safeguarding/confidentiality procedures.
  • Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Communication Support Worker

Location: East London, E1 4NS
Contract: Temporary Contract

Morgan Hunt is working with a welcoming and inclusive Further Education college in East London that is looking for an experienced Communication Support Worker to join its team from September.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine difference by helping learners fully access lessons, communicate confidently and participate in every aspect of college life.

The Role

As a Communication Support Worker, you will provide communication support to deaf and hearing-impaired learners in classroom and college environments.

You will work closely with lecturers, Learning Support teams and other professionals to ensure students can access learning, develop their independence and achieve their educational goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide communication support using British Sign Language.
  • Support deaf and hearing-impaired learners during lessons, assessments and college activities.
  • Ensure information delivered by lecturers is clearly communicated and understood.
  • Adapt communication methods to meet each learner's individual needs.
  • Encourage students to develop their confidence, independence and communication skills.
  • Work closely with teaching and Learning Support teams.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow safeguarding and confidentiality procedures.
  • Promote an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
What We're Looking For
  • A recognised British Sign Language qualification, ideally Level 2 or Level 3.
  • Experience supporting deaf or hearing-impaired learners.
  • Previous experience within Further Education, SEND or a similar educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, reliable and learner-focused approach.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one through Morgan Hunt.
