Job summary

Confidential is seeking an experienced Communication Support Worker to support Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners in a college setting. The role requires BSL, inclusive education, and collaboration with teaching staff to ensure full access to the curriculum.

You will provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and BSL, adapt materials, maintain records, and support learners in class. This is a part-time/full-time temporary position based in Carshalton with flexible hours.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 BSL qualification is essential.
  • Experience supporting Deaf or hard-of-hearing learners.
  • Ability to adapt and modify learning materials.
  • Ability to promote Deaf awareness among staff and peers.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and BSL (or learner's preferred method).
  • Work closely with tutors to support inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and databases.
  • Assist learners with understanding verbal instructions and classroom tasks.
  • Support a positive and accessible learning experience for all students.

Salary: From £35 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Communication Support Worker (CSW) to provide high-quality support to Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners. The ideal candidate will be confident using British Sign Language (BSL), committed to inclusive education, and able to work collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure learners have full access to the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide real-time interpretation between spoken English and BSL (or the learner's preferred communication method)
  • Work closely with tutors to support inclusive teaching strategies
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and databases
  • Assist learners with understanding verbal instructions, written materials, and classroom tasks
  • Support a positive and accessible learning experience for all students
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Level 3 BSL qualification (essential)
