Job summary

Teaching Personnel in Kettering is seeking a Level 3 BSL Communication Support Worker to assist learners aged 18–25 with EHCPs. You will provide BSL support to access lessons and activities, working closely with tutors and SEND teams to tailor assistance and maximise independence.

The role focuses on developing learners' confidence, communication skills and workplace readiness, with a view toward successful employment and adulthood.

Qualifications

• Holds a Level 3 BSL qualification or equivalent.
• Has experience of supporting Deaf or hearing-impaired young people and/or adults.
• Has an understanding of EHCPs, SEND and preparation for adulthood.
• Is passionate about improving outcomes for young people.
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Can build positive, professional relationships with learners.
• Is patient, encouraging and able to adapt support to individual needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide BSL communication support to learners across the college.

• Help learners develop independence, confidence and self-advocacy skills.
• Assist with preparation for employment, including CVs, interviews and workplace communication.
• Support learners during work experience, employer visits and careers activities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, supportive and committed Level 3 BSL Communication Support Worker to join our college team and work with young people aged 18–25 with EHCPs.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting Deaf and hearing-impaired learners to develop their confidence, independence and communication skills and, most importantly, prepare for and move into employment.

About the role

You will provide BSL communication support to learners across the college, helping them access lessons, activities, assessments and wider college opportunities. You will work closely with teaching staff, SEND teams, careers professionals and employers to ensure learners receive the right support to achieve their goals.

A key part of the role will be helping students develop the skills they need for adult life and the workplace, including:

• Supporting learners to access their education and achieve their EHCP outcomes.
• Providing effective BSL communication support in classrooms and college activities.
• Developing learners' confidence, independence and self-advocacy skills.
• Supporting preparation for employment, including CVs, interviews, workplace communication and professional behaviour.
• Supporting learners during work experience, employer visits, placements and careers activities.
• Helping learners understand and communicate their needs within a workplace.
• Working collaboratively with tutors, support staff, families and external professionals.
• Encouraging learners to recognise their strengths, develop their skills and work towards their individual aspirations.
• Supporting the transition from college into further education, training or paid employment.

About you
