Bishop Auckland College is looking for a Communication Support Assistant to provide one-to-one support to a hearing-impaired student. The role involves using British Sign Language and other methods to ensure the student can fully engage in their education. This temporary position offers approximately 21 hours per week until June 2026. A commitment to safeguarding and inclusion is essential.
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Communication Support Assistant to join our Learning Support team, providing one-to-one support to a hearing-impaired student at Bishop Auckland College. You will play a key role in ensuring the student can access learning, participate fully in college life and achieve their academic goals.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with strong communication skills, experience of supporting hearing-impaired students and has a passion for inclusive education.
The successful candidate will provide in-class communication support using appropriate methods (e.g. British Sign Language, note-taking, etc), support the student in understanding lesson content, instructions and assessment, and work closely with teaching staff and support services to adapt materials and learning approaches.
The successful candidate will hold a Level 3 in British Sign Language and Level 2 in literacy and numeracy. You must also have significant experience of working with hearing-impair children and young people.
Key information
Grade: £15.49 per hour (inclusive of bank holiday and holiday entitlement)
Hours: Approximately 21 hours per week, temporary position until June 2026

This role will include responsibilities within safeguarding and the postholder will be engaging in regulated activity.
