Job description

Learning Support Assistant, 25 hours per week, Temporary, Term Time Only

The primary purpose of this post is to support learners with additional support needs as an effective member of the Learning Support Team.

2. Principle Accountabilities

  1. Ensure learners with additional support needs are effectively supported in learning activities in the College and/or community, maintaining high-standard records of support.
  2. Communicate effectively with individual learners to clarify support arrangements prior to learning activities.
  3. Use a range of strategies to enable each learner to become more independent in various settings including classroom, workshop, learning centre, College, and community.
  4. Assist with personal care needs according to individual requirements, including administration of medication following training, and support with toileting, changing, bathing, and lifting using specialist equipment where appropriate.
  5. Communicate with teaching staff to clarify support arrangements.
  6. Assist in preparing, modifying, and developing learning materials for individual learners.
  7. Maintain confidentiality of learner information in line with College policies.
  8. Provide individual support to enable learners to participate in social, recreational, leisure, sports, and voluntary activities.
  9. Contribute to the development of the Learning Support Service as a team member, collaborating with colleagues and external agencies.
  10. Be familiar with health and safety legislation relevant to the role.
  11. Comply with all College policies and procedures, including those related to Finance, Personnel, Health and Safety, and Equal Opportunities.
  12. Perform other duties as required by the Principal & Chief Executive.
