Job summary

North Yorkshire Council invites applications for a Commercial Waste Officer. The role focuses on developing, marketing and selling commercial waste services to businesses across North Yorkshire, with a strong emphasis on revenue growth and market share expansion.

Hybrid working arrangements are available, with travel to Northallerton for internal meetings. You will contribute to implementing a countywide waste management system and coordinating across multiple systems, processes and teams to

Qualifications

• Commitment to delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service in a commercially driven environment.
• Experience in customer-facing negotiations, relationship management and contract administration.
• Strong ICT skills and confidence using a range of business systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using multiple IT and case management systems and adapting to new technologies.
• Confidence to support system changes, testing and implementation activities.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and work collaboratively.
• A proactive approach with attention to detail and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Knowledge of commercial waste services, waste legislation and environmental regulations is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Develop, market and sell commercial waste services to targeted new and existing businesses.
• Manage the customer journey from contract administration to querying and changes in service.
• Provide customer quotations and tendering for contracts; promote and target new customers.
• Create new contracts, manage contracts and resolve queries; implement changes in service.
• Assist with billing and work with credit control.
• Provide advice and information for commercial waste services.
• Collaborate with Resourcing Optimisation Team to maximise supply opportunities.
• Assist in implementing and developing the new waste management system across multiple platforms.
