Job summary

Hull City Council is seeking a Commercial Waste Development Officer on a full-time, fixed-term basis until June 2028. Responsibilities

• Statutory Obligations - support the Council’s statutory duty as a waste collection authority under Environmental Protection Act 1990 and promote commercial waste and recycling services.
• Contributes to development and delivery of a long-term business plan for the commercial waste service including new pricing strategy and innovation.
• Drives growth in business revenue through effective sales, development opportunities, influencing and negotiation, with pricing guidance.
• Keeps aware of trends in the commercial waste industry and derives action from local market insights.
• Establishes mechanisms to capture information and ideas for service improvement and new income streams.
• Devises and monitors pricing strategies to maintain competitive, profitable services across waste streams.
• Produces management information for effective reporting and profit/loss insights.
• Maintains relationships with clients and partners to promote the service and manage feedback.
• Manages external bin supply and delivery contractors, ensuring stock control and client support.
• Prepares and presents performance information on project outputs and milestones.
• Develops and maintains a marketing strategy with supporting media to promote the service.
• Works with operations to identify efficiency gains and secure new business opportunities; visits ~50 premises per week.
• Negotiates contracts with prospective customers and ensures paperwork and systems are in place for new contracts.
