Job summary

Interaction Recruitment is seeking a skilled CNC Miller/Chargehand for a leading precision engineering firm in Rugby. The role combines hands-on milling with departmental leadership, overseeing 4-axis DMU machining using Fanuc controls and ensuring tight tolerances are met.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Shop Floor Manager, allocate tasks, coordinate materials, and drive process improvements while maintaining quality and health & safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience setting and operating CNC milling machinery.
  • Essential: Fanuc controls experience.
  • Able to read and interpret detailed drawings.
  • Knowledge of multi-axis Starrag mills advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate 4-axis DMU milling with Fanuc.
  • Produce small to large batches to tight tolerances.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Coordinate with Shop Floor Manager on priorities.
  • Support process improvements and troubleshooting.

CNC Miller / Chargehand

Salary: £38,000 – £42,000 + overtime @ 1.33x
Location: Rugby, Warwickshire
Hours: 7:45–16:45 Monday to Thursday / 7:30–12:30 Friday
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

The Client

Interaction Technical have partnered with a well-established precision engineering firm based in Rugby on their search for an experienced CNC Miller / Chargehand with Fanuc controls experience to join their growing team.

The Role

As a CNC Miller Chargehand / Leading Hand, you will remain hands‑on within the milling section while taking responsibility for supporting the smooth and efficient running of the department.

You will work closely with the Shop Floor Manager and wider production team to ensure work is allocated effectively; materials are available and production targets and quality standards are achieved.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting and operating 4‑axis DMU milling machinery using Fanuc controls to produce precise components
  • Producing both small and large batches of components to extremely tight tolerances
  • Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings
  • Working with a variety of materials and ensuring components are produced efficiently and accurately
  • Liaising closely with the Shop Floor Manager regarding production requirements and priorities
  • Allocating tasks across the milling section to ensure production schedules are maintained
  • Coordinating materials to ensure the milling section has everything required to maintain workflow
  • Supporting process optimisation and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and productivity
  • Providing hands‑on troubleshooting and technical support when issues arise
  • Supporting colleagues within the milling section and helping to maintain a productive working environment
  • Ensuring all work is completed in line with company quality and Health & Safety procedures
  • Working collaboratively with other departments to ensure production requirements are met
The Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • Previous experience setting and operating CNC milling machinery
  • Previous experience using Fanuc controls – essential
  • Proven ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings – essential
  • Strong understanding of CNC milling processes and precision engineering
  • Previous experience working with multi‑axis Starrag mills – advantageous
  • Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • The ability to organise and allocate work effectively
  • Good communication skills and the confidence to liaise with the Shop Floor Manager and wider production team
  • A proactive approach to identifying and implementing process improvements
  • The ability to work independently while also supporting and guiding colleagues
  • A willingness to take on additional responsibility and progress within the business

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced CNC Miller, Senior CNC Miller or CNC Chargehand who is ready to step into a Leading Hand position, or for an existing Chargehand looking for a new challenge.
