Job summary

First Base in Nuneaton is seeking a skilled CNC Milling Machinist to programme, set up and run milling operations on epoxy boards, carbon composite parts and other components. You’ll work across tooling for composite manufacture and ensure correct speeds, feeds and tolerances.

The role requires a hands-on, time-served machinist experienced with Heidenhain, Siemens or Mazatrol controls and reading complex drawings.

Qualifications

• CNC milling experience with multi-controller systems (Heidenhain/Siemens/Mazatrol).
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and tolerances.
• Hands-on Machinist with practical, time-served background.
• Experience in bespoke manufacturing environments is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• CNC machining of tooling for composite component manufacture (Epoxy boards, carbon parts, jigs).
• Machining Aluminium, Steel and other metals for components.
• Set speeds/feeds and optimize operating practices.
• Meet program cycle times and operate left/right-hand parts.
• Set up components using fixtures or plates.
• Measure tooling/components with micrometers and verniers.
• Maximize machine efficiency and suggest process improvements.
• Collaborate with CNC Team Leader to meet job timings.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area.
• Perform preventative maintenance on machines.
• Support other tasks across the Nuneaton site as required.

• 2:15pm to 22:45 Monday to Thursday, 10:45am to 15:45 Fridays

Salary

£35,000 - £38,500 + 12.5% shift allowance (£39,375 - £43,312)

Key Responsibilities of a CNC Milling Machinist

• CNC machining of tooling for composite component manufacture, including Epoxy boards, Carbon composite parts, and jigs/fixtures.
• Machining Aluminium, Steel, and other metals for various components.
• Ensure correct speeds/feeds and optimal operating practices.
• Consistently meet program cycle times, including simultaneous operation of left/right-hand parts.
• Efficiently set up components using fixtures or plates.
• Accurately measure tooling/components using micrometers, verniers, etc.
• Maximise machine efficiency and provide feedback for process improvement.
• Work closely with the CNC Team Leader to ensure job timings are met.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area.
• Perform preventative maintenance on machines.
• Support other tasks across the Nuneaton site as required.

Key Skills of a CNC Milling Machinist

• Fully trained in CNC milling with Heidenhain, Siemens or Mazatrol controllers.
• Solid understanding of machining technology and working to tolerances.
• Experience in bespoke machining projects, ideally in a manufacturing environment.
• Time-served machinist with a hands-on, practical approach.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings (advantageous).
