Job summary

First Base Employment Ltd is recruiting a CNC Team Leader in Nuneaton. You will lead a small‑batch CNC milling department, supervise a team of skilled machinists, and ensure production targets, quality standards and delivery deadlines are consistently achieved.

Qualifications

• Experience in CNC milling in bespoke/small-batch manufacturing.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and tolerate tight tolerances.
• Experience setting and operating CNC milling machines.
• Experience leading a team and coordinating production activities.
• Familiarity with ISO quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of CNC machinists daily.
• Plan and monitor production to meet customer orders on time.

CNC Team Leader

Location: Nuneaton

Hours: Day Shift

• Monday to Thursday: 7.30am - 4.00pm
• Friday: 7.30am - 12.30pm

Salary: Up to £47,000 per annum

Holidays: 25 days annual leave

We are recruiting a CNC Team Leader for a leading manufacturing business based in Nuneaton. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CNC machinist or production engineering professional to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of an advanced CNC milling department within a bespoke, small-batch and one-off manufacturing environment.

Reporting directly to the Production Manager, you will lead a team of skilled and semi-skilled engineers, ensuring production targets, quality standards and delivery deadlines are consistently achieved.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of CNC machinists, providing day-to-day guidance, support and direction.
• Plan, organise and monitor production activities to ensure customer orders are completed on time.
• Coordinate materials, tooling, fixtures and resources to maximise production efficiency.
• Oversee CNC milling operations, ensuring appropriate machining strategies, speeds, feeds and tooling are used.
• Support the team in resolving technical and operational issues involving machinery, tooling, programmes and fixturing.
• Monitor product quality and ensure components meet customer specifications and required tolerances.
• Investigate and resolve in-process quality issues, recording internal rejects and implementing corrective actions where necessary.
• Ensure manufacturing processes and documentation are maintained in accordance with ISO quality standards.
• Identify opportunities to improve machining processes, productivity and machine utilisation.
• Work closely with the Production Manager and wider team to ensure production priorities and deadlines are achieved.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Strong background in CNC milling, with a thorough understanding of machining processes and technology.
• Previous experience in a bespoke, one-off or small-batch manufacturing environment.
• Good knowledge of CNC milling machinery, including speeds, feeds, tooling, fixturing and machining strategies.
• Experience of setting and operating CNC milling machines.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances.
• Experience of planning and coordinating production activities, materials and resources.
• Good understanding of engineering quality systems, ideally within an ISO-controlled manufacturing environment.
• Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team.
• A practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving, with the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.

Desirable Skills and Experience

• Previous experience in a CNC Team Leader, Supervisor or Workshop Management position.
• Alternatively, a strong production engineering background with the ambition to move into a leadership role.
• Working knowledge of Heidenhain, Siemens or Mazatrol CNC control systems.
• Experience machining composite tooling, including epoxy boards, carbon composite components, jigs and fixtures.
• Experience machining aluminium, steel and other metals.
