Job summary

Dover Precision Components in Glasgow is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to operate multi-axis machines, read complex drawings, and set up tooling for precision components. You will work in a lean manufacturing environment, ensuring tight tolerances and high-quality finishes across a range of materials.

Ideal candidates bring a time-served machining apprenticeship or SVQ/NVQ Level 3/HNC, with 5+ years’ CNC experience and proficiency with common controls.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship in a machining discipline or SVQ/NVQ level 3 or HNC in Mechanical Engineering
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience operating CNC machine tools within a lean-manufacturing environment
• Established milling, grinding or turning experience with multi-axis machines
• Experience with machine control systems such as Fanuc, Mazak, Heidenhain or Haas
• Proven ability to hold tight tolerances of less than 0.0025 mm
• Experience with precision inspection equipment (micrometres, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges)
• Experience in power generation, oil & gas, aerospace or similar environments

Responsibilities

• Read process sheets, blueprints and sketches to determine machining requirements
• Locate and download programs from a DNC system
• Select and install proper tooling for operations
• Calculate feeds and speeds for various steel grades
• Read/edit/write complete CNC programs
• Inspect components and ensure quality standards
• Perform finishing and assembly preparation as required
• Adhere to Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce setup times and improve productivity
