Job summary

We have 3 new anaesthesia fellowships at Ashford and St Peter's, ideal for candidates aiming to develop sub-specialty interests and strengthen their CVs for ST4 or consultant applications.

Applicants should have at least 2 years of experience in anaesthesia and critical care, capable of covering on calls in theatres, labour ward, and intensive care with distant supervision.

These posts are available from August 2025 for 6-12 months, depending on the applicant's preference.

Main duties of the job
  • Contribute to peri-operative care within their sub-specialty, with work involving training and solo lists under supervision.
  • Participate in service development and quality improvement projects.
  • Organize and deliver teaching sessions to the department and wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Provide on-call cover on a 1 in 8 rota in theatres, obstetrics, or intensive care, under consultant supervision.

Job responsibilities
  • Deliver peri-operative care in sub-specialty areas with consultant oversight.
  • Perform pre-operative assessments, including high-risk clinics and MDT presentations.
  • Engage in projects to enhance service quality and development.
  • Deliver teaching at departmental and trainee levels.
  • Provide on-call cover with supervision in theatres, obstetrics, or intensive care on a 1 in 8 basis.
  • Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain high standards of patient-centered care.
  • Align with the Trust’s objectives and values.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Essential: MBBS or equivalent, GMC registration with license to practice.
  • Desirable: Postgraduate qualifications like FRCA.
Experience
  • Essential: 2 years in anaesthesia and critical care; experience with distant supervision.
Knowledge
  • Evidence of CPD activities related to anaesthesia.
Skills
  • Initial Assessment of Competencies (IAC) and in Obstetric Anaesthesia (IACOA).
  • Ability to anaesthetize ASA 1 and 2 emergency patients independently.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in IT systems.
Other
