Job summary

Maiden Erlegh School is seeking a dedicated Cover Supervisor to maintain continuity of learning during teacher absences. You will supervise classes, implement work set by teachers, and support students to engage with learning in a calm, structured environment.

You will adapt to differing student needs, including SEMH, maintain behavioural expectations, and contribute to safeguarding and welfare across the school. A commitment to inclusion and professional collaboration is essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
• Understanding of SEMH needs and how learning activities are delivered in classroom
• Knowledge of health and safety in relation to buildings maintenance
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students
• Excellent time management and organisational skills
• Resilient, patient and empathetic under pressure and calm with young people
• Positive attitude towards working with young people, including those with additional needs
• Commitment to safeguarding, equality and promoting welfare of children and young people
• Awareness of safeguarding policies and procedures and reporting concerns

Responsibilities

• Ensure continuity of learning during teacher absence by supervising classes and communicating work clearly
• Adapt communication and support to meet differing student needs including SEMH
• Maintain a safe, calm classroom environment and apply behaviour systems
• Support students to regulate behaviour and emotions and promote respectful interactions
• Record and communicate information about student engagement, progress, behaviour and attendance
• Build positive professional relationships with students and staff and work with parents and carers
• Support inclusion or behaviour teams during unallocated lessons and supervise off-site activities
• Undertake exam invigilation in compliance with exam boards and internal regulations
• Ensure students have resources for work and provide feedback to teachers
• Manage departmental budget and comply with safeguarding and data protection requirements
