Qualifications

About the company

Steamship Mutual is a P&I insurance company with 210 employees worldwide. Our main office is near Liverpool Street station, London, with additional offices in Bermuda, Brazil, Cyprus, Greece, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore.

Overall Job Purpose:

To provide P&I claims handling services and advice within the Americas Syndicate, supporting Members based in North America and worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Promote and maintain relationships between the Club and existing Members.
  2. Handle assigned claims according to company procedures, offering advice and identifying loss prevention opportunities.
  3. Manage a wide range of P&I issues and defence caseloads, including complex and high-value cases.
  4. Work independently, taking ownership of caseloads while seeking guidance when needed.
  5. Ensure electronic correspondence related to claims is promptly and correctly filed.
  6. Delegate work appropriately and support the development of Syndicate Assistants.
  7. Contribute to improving company procedures and systems.
  8. Create articles for Club publications.
  9. Support Syndicate Underwriting objectives.
  10. Perform other duties within your skills and scope as instructed.
  11. Attend training to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
  12. Undertake any additional ad hoc duties as required.

Person Specification:

  1. Experience in shipping litigation and dispute resolution, from P&I clubs, insurers, law firms, ship owners, or agents.
  2. Excellent communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and reporting.
  3. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships internally and externally.
  4. Highly organized, motivated, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic.
  5. Ability to deliver quality work within deadlines and prioritize tasks.
  6. Proactive, with good initiative.
  7. Teamwork skills.
