Job summary

Natural Resources Wales seeks an experienced Civil Engineer to protect communities, infrastructure and the environment from flooding. You will provide technical and health and safety guidance to field teams, designing repairs and small to medium improvement projects while maintaining flood defence assets.

You will coordinate work across contractors and stakeholders, contribute to data and financial management, and support additional construction projects in South East Wales.

Qualifications

  • Qualified civil engineer with HND/HNC or degree and progression toward Incorporated Engineer status.
  • Broad knowledge of civil engineering design and construction practices.
  • Knowledge of H&S best practice and its application.
  • Experience with ICT and strong surveying skills including software use.
  • Experience in cross-team working and stakeholder engagement to achieve objectives.
  • Must hold a Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Produce the annual flood risk asset maintenance programme.
  • Lead on risk management planning for the work.
  • Create and review flood incident response plans and run drills.
  • Develop procedures for asset operation during floods.
  • Lead scoping, justification, cost and delivery of asset improvement projects.
  • Indirect budget responsibility for revenue and capital projects.
  • In partnership with Procurement deliver framework services and product supplies.
  • Supervise contractors and liaise with stakeholders including local authorities and landowners.
  • Perform health and safety duties appropriate to the post.
  • Support equal opportunities and diversity policies and development plans.
  • Participate in incident response activities.
  • Carry out other duties commensurate with the grade.
