Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd in Cardiff is seeking a Flood Risk Engineer with around 3 years' experience to join its growing team. You'll work on a varied mix of projects across Wales and the wider UK.

The role covers preparing FRAs, drainage strategies, hydrology and hydraulic assessments, and reporting to support planning applications. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders is essential. We offer a collaborative environment and clear development path.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering or related discipline.
• Around 3 years of flood risk, drainage or water consultancy experience.
• Experience producing Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies.
• Knowledge of UK flood risk policy and guidance.
• Experience with hydraulic modelling software (Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, InfoWorks ICM) is beneficial.
• Strong technical report writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Flood Risk Assessments and drainage strategies.
• Undertake flood risk assessments for residential, commercial and infrastructure projects.
• Support surface water and drainage design, including SuDS.
• Carry out hydrology and hydraulic assessments.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities, Natural Resources Wales and other stakeholders.
• Produce technical reports and support planning applications.
• Contribute to flood alleviation and sustainable drainage projects.
• Work closely with wider civil engineering and environmental teams.
