Job summary

WSP in the United Kingdom is recruiting a Senior Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant to deliver FCAs, FRAs and sustainable drainage strategies on complex projects for clients across the UK. You will work within the Sustainable Water Management team on cross-disciplinary projects, including planning, EIA inputs, and SAB submissions.

You will lead technically, train junior consultants, support tendering, and manage project budgets and programmes.

Qualifications

• FRA/FCA experience, preferably in consultancy.

Responsibilities

• Carry out and supervise FCAs and FRAs for schemes.
• Provide input into drainage strategies and design for complex schemes.
• Oversee feasibility studies and supporting drawings.
• Prepare SAB submissions with Welsh Local Authorities.
• Deliver Section 19 Flood Investigations.
• Technical oversight and training of junior consultants.
• Support tendering and work winning activities.
• Lead project management: finances and programme.
• Coordinate meetings with project teams and clients.
• Liaise with Sustainable Water Management team and wider business.

A little more about your role…

We are looking for a Senior Flood Risk and Drainage Consultant who has experience in the delivery of flood risk and consequence assessments and sustainable drainage strategy solutions to work collaboratively on technically complex projects for a range of clients.

Working as part of our national team, the successful candidate will also be able to work seamlessly across other technical areas within the Sustainable Water Management team. This includes but is not limited to LLFA technical services, Water EIA input, permitting applications, drainage design, SAB submissions in Wales (extending into England in due course).

Responsibilities will include:

• Carry out and supervise the completion of FCAs and FRAs for a variety of schemes
• Provide technical input intosustainable drainage strategies and design for complex schemes
• Oversee the preparation of feasibility studies and supporting drawings
• Prepare successful SAB submissions with Welsh Local Authorities
• Deliver Section 19 Flood Investigations
• Have technical oversight and training of junior consultants, ensuring high-quality outputs
• Support tendering and work winning activities of the team
• Taking leadership of certain project management activities, including financial and programme management.
• Be multi-disciplinary and client-facing, co-ordinating project meetings both internally and externally
• Communicating and liaising effectively and efficiently with the project team (both theSustainable Water Management team and the wider business)

Due to strong and sustained growth in our Sustainable Water Management business, we are seeking new colleagues who have experience in Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage to join our team of 350 water consultancy and engineering professionals. Applicants are invited to further strengthen our technical capability in our water team to lead the delivery of a range of project work, including planning and DCO applications for major infrastructure development.

The Sustainable Water Management business operates as a national team: work, training and technical expertise are shared around the local teams ensuring project allocation considers personal interests and personal development aspirations and much as practicable

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

Skills / Experience

• Flood Risk and Consequence Assessments preparation in England and Wales, and experience in one or more of the typical supporting skills including flood risk modelling, flood risk strategy development or Water EIA, at least some of which should have been in consultancy
• Drainage Strategies and SAB submissions in Wales
• Drainage design using AutoCAD and hydraulic modelling, using industry-standard software (e.g. Causeway Flow/Microdrainage, InfoWorks)
• Familiarity with any industry-standard geographical information systems (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo)
• Knowledge of the regulatory context for flood risk planning and sustainable drainage approvals in the UK.
• Technical inputs for planning and permitting for major infrastructure projects
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Some experience in supporting commercial aspects and project management.
  

Qualifications

• A degree in a relevant environmental, geographical, science or engineering discipline is essential
• Actively working towards chartered status with IEng, C.WEM or CEng
