Job description

We want Kirklees is to be a district which combines a strong, sustainable economy with a great quality of life – leading to thriving communities, growing businesses, high prosperity, and low inequality where people enjoy better health throughout their lives.

Kirklees Council is looking for people to join our team of Civil Enforcement Officers, who manage and enforce parking regulations and restrictions across the district. Benefits of working with us include:

  • 28.5 days paid leave per year plus bank holidays, rising to 33.5 days after 5 years’ service
  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Access to Employee Healthcare including health MOTs and wellbeing support
  • Full training including both online and classroom based learning and ongoing professional development
  • Free uniform provided

Working from one of our bases in Huddersfield and Dewsbury you will be the public face of Parking Services, tackling and resolving a variety of parking issues in a fair and consistent way. You will be an ambassador for the Council, helping customers and members of the public with parking related queries and complaints.

You will patrol either North or South Kirklees, checking that vehicles are parked correctly in car parks and on street, and where necessary issuing Penalty Charge Notices (parking tickets).

Full training will be given, with an initial 6-week induction period during which you will work alongside an experienced officer. When you have completed your training, you will be able to deal with a range of parking offences (we call them contraventions). You will also check the condition of parking machines and signs during your patrol, reporting any issues to your supervisor.

You will work a rotating shift pattern of 5 days out of 7, Monday to Sunday with start and finish times between 08:00 and 20:00. There may be some occasions where you will be required to work between the hours of 07:30 and 22:00. These shift patterns are currently under review. An additional allowance will be paid for shift working. There will sometimes be opportunities to work with the police and other partner agencies, either during the day or in the evening.

You will patrol mainly on foot in all weathers in and around town centre locations, sometimes driving a Council van or taking public transport to other locations.

You will be able to plan your own day and ensure parking regulations are being followed. You need to be able to demonstrate good communication skills and a calm approach when dealing with members of the public. A uniform is provided for working in all weathers including appropriate footwear and you will also be provided with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment. You may on occasion be deployed in plain clothes as part of our strategy to identify and tackle blue badge misuse.

You will be allocated areas to patrol across the Kirklees District and must hold a valid driving licence that allows you to drive in the UK, as driving is an essential requirement of this role
