We have an exciting opportunity arising for charge nurse posts on our new female acute ward at Mill View Hospital!
As a Charge Nurse, you will have opportunities to deliver patient-centred care supporting patients in their recovery. You will be a vital part of our multi-disciplinary team undertaking detailed assessments of patients with complex mental health needs. You will be expected to administer and monitor medication.
You will provide clinical and managerial leadership on the ward, supervising junior staff and trainees, and regularly taking charge of the clinical environment during your shift. We work closely with other teams and professionals to ensure the effective discharge of patients.
We work flexibly to meet the needs of our 24-hour service, including evenings, nights, and weekends.

You will work alongside an established and experienced multi-disciplinary team (MDT), including nurses, healthcare assistants, nursing associates, doctors, occupational therapists, psychologists, pharmacy team, and an art therapist.

Palmeira Ward will be a 13-bed female acute mental health ward, primarily working with individuals aged 18-65, located within Mill View Hospital in Hove.

Provide clinical practice and support your professional development. Communicate effectively with service users, families, and carers, demonstrating adaptability and cultural sensitivity. Develop gender-specific approaches to care.
Provide clinical leadership, making informed decisions about patient care. Act as primary nurse for inpatient service users. Work within the CPA framework, conducting detailed assessments and developing recovery-focused, outcome-based care plans.
Implement interventions responsive to service user needs, monitor progress, and modify treatments accordingly. Handle situations involving distressed service users and relatives. Collaborate with other teams for effective discharge planning.
Administer and monitor medications, ensuring compliance with policies. Report any safety or reputational concerns to senior management. Work with the Ward Manager to maintain an effective therapeutic environment, stay updated on relevant legislation, and assist in ward management and staff recruitment. Regularly act as nurse in charge and deputize for the Ward Manager as needed.
