Main duties of the jobAbout the Role:
As anAcute Oncology Sister/Charge Nurse, you will play apivotal rolewithin themultidisciplinary Acute Oncology Team, working closely withhealthcare colleaguesto provide high-quality emergency care to cancer patients. This includes:
CoordinatingtheOncology Same Day Emergency Care (OSDEC) Unit, triaging referrals, admitting patients, and organising investigations.
Assessing patientsand providing specialist oncology nursing care, including managing treatment complications, administering medication and fluids, and performing nursing procedures.
Triaging oncology and hematology patientsthrough theOncology Treatment Hotline, ensuring timely advice and intervention.
Working closelywith theEmergency Department, Chemotherapy Day Unit, Radiotherapy, St. Luke's Outpatient Clinic, and inpatient wardsto ensure smooth patient flow and high-quality care.
Leading service improvements, participating in audits, research, and education, and ensuring adherence to national guidelines and Cancer Alliance protocols.
The key function of the Acute Oncology Sister/Charge Nurse is to work alongside the Acute Oncology Team (AOT) to coordinate and deliver a comprehensive Acute Oncology Service (AOS) within the Trust. This role ensures the provision of high-quality, timely care to oncology patients while maintaining clear communication with multidisciplinary teams.
