Job summary

Nescot College is seeking a dedicated catering/kitchen assistant to support practical classes and restaurant service on a term-time basis. You will help prepare ingredients, manage stock, and assist staff during lessons and events, maintaining high hygiene and safety standards.

Working four days a week (Mon Tue Thu Fri) with flexibility for occasional evenings, you’ll be part of a friendly team, enjoy on-site facilities, and contribute to a positive learning environment for students.

Qualifications

• Experience in a professional catering, hospitality or kitchen environment.
• Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and health and safety requirements.
• Ability to organise workloads and work independently.
• High standards with attention to detail.
• Good communication and people skills.
• Comfortable using basic IT systems and digital records.
• Level 2 Food Safety qualification.

Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients, resources and equipment for practical classes and demonstrations
• Support teaching staff during practical lessons and restaurant service
• Manage deliveries, stock control and store food and consumables
• Maintain professional kitchen and restaurant facilities
• Promote high standards of food hygiene, health and safety and housekeeping
• Support learners in developing professional behaviours and industry expectations

Job description

Your work pattern will be 4 days per week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) but you must be available for occasional flexibility to cover evening restaurant sessions and events between 8am-8pm. This is a term time only position working 36 weeks per year.
