Job summary

Cranfield University is seeking a Casual Kitchen Assistant to join our catering team. The role focuses on hands-on food preparation, supporting chefs with buffets and basic kitchen tasks across multiple kitchens and outlets.

Hours are daytime with some evenings and weekends; full training will be provided, including food hygiene and kitchen protocols. Uniform and meals on duty are included, with opportunities for progression within Campus Services.

• Prepare fruit, vegetables, meat and fish to a high standard and in line with food safety regulations.
• Ensure timely delivery and attractive presentation of food for service.
• Maintain hygiene and cleanliness in food preparation areas.
• Support general kitchen duties when required.
• Work efficiently and calmly under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Adapt to working in different kitchens and outlets across campus.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Casual Kitchen Assistant to join our dynamic catering team at Cranfield University. This is a hands‑on role ideal for someone with a passion for food preparation and a strong team ethic.

Working hours will primarily be during the daytime, but flexibility is essential. You will be expected to work some evenings and weekends, depending on business needs. Due to the nature of the shift patterns, this position is not suitable on any applicants whom rely on public transport.

This role focuses on basic food preparation rather than cleaning duties. You will assist chefs with the preparation of buffets including, but not limited to salads, sandwiches and simple desserts. As part of the wider Campus Services team, you will support catering operations across multiple kitchens and outlets.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with the preparation of buffets, sandwiches, salads, and accompaniments
