Job summary

Cranfield University is seeking a Casual Kitchen Assistant to join our campus catering team. The role focuses on basic food preparation for buffets and outlets across the campus, with daytime hours and occasional evenings and weekends.

You will work under pressure to deliver attractive, safe meals, maintain hygiene, and support chefs in multiple kitchens. A positive attitude and reliability are essential, with full training provided.

Qualifications

• Experience in a kitchen environment is preferred.
• Basic food preparation and presentation skills desirable.
• Willingness to learn and follow food safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparation of buffets, sandwiches, salads, and accompaniments
• Prepare fruit, vegetables, meat, and fish to a high standard and in line with food safety regulations
• Ensure timely delivery and attractive presentation of food for service
• Maintain excellent hygiene and cleanliness in food preparation areas
• Support general kitchen duties when required
• Work efficiently and calmly under pressure and to tight deadlines
• Adapt to working in different kitchens and outlets across campus
• Positive, can-do attitude
• Works well both independently and as part of a team
• Self-motivated, dependable, and committed
• Flexible with working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends

Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Casual Kitchen Assistant to join our dynamic catering team at Cranfield University. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with a passion for food preparation and a strong team ethic. Working hours will primarily be during the daytime, but flexibility is essential. You will be expected to work some evenings and weekends, depending on business needs. Due to the nature of the shift patterns, this position is not suitable on any applicants whom rely on public transport. This role focuses on basic food preparation rather than cleaning duties. You will assist chefs with the preparation of buffets including, but not limited to salads, sandwiches and simple desserts. As part of the wider Campus Services team, you will support catering operations across multiple kitchens and outlets.,
