The Job

  • Ensure that cases are "trial ready" for hearings.
  • Progress and manage a high volume of disciplinary cases of varying complexity, including sensitive and high-profile matters, applying professional judgement and specialist expertise.
  • Review and assess evidence in cases to reach well-reasoned decisions, ensuring compliance with ACCA's Rulebook, departmental procedures, and principles of fairness, due process and proportionality.
  • Draft clear and detailed reports, findings, decisions, and legal documents, including allegations, instructions to counsel, agreed statements of fact, chronologies, case management forms, and witness statements.
  • Manage interlocutory matters such as case management meetings, interim orders, and health hearings.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including members, complainants, witnesses, law enforcement and the public, handling sensitive or challenging situations with professionalism and confidence.

The Person

We're looking for someone who:

  • A UK-qualified Solicitor, CILEX Fellow or holder of an equivalent foreign legal qualification.
  • Knowledge of the legal framework in a regulatory environment and an understanding of regulatory and operational risk.
  • A high level of understanding of the rules and principles of evidence, the right to a fair hearing and due process requirements.
  • Thorough understanding of protocols around instructing counsel and attending judicial proceedings.
  • Substantial experience of conducting complex case analysis and drafting in a contentious or regulatory environment, while handling a caseload.
  • Experience of applying rules of evidence in a regulatory or "due process" environment.
  • Track record of coordinating and delivering solutions, and taking accountability for the successful resolution of complex issues.
