Job summary

HC-One is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support high-quality dining for Residents across our care homes. You’ll assist with meal prep, serve meals with warmth, and keep the kitchen hygienic and organised while following recipes and records.

You'll need some kitchen experience and a genuine passion for helping others; NVQ2 in Catering or Food Preparation is preferred or a willingness to work towards it. A safeguarding training mindset and team-focused approach are essential.

Qualifications

• Some kitchen experience and a willingness to work towards NVQ2 in Catering or Food Preparation.
• Strong organisational skills, keen eye for detail, and the ability to follow recipes and record information accurately.
• Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility; safeguarding training appropriate to the role is required and to report concerns when needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meal preparation under the direction of the Chef or Cook.
• Serve meals with warmth and respect in a timely and friendly manner.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, including equipment and surfaces.
• Monitor and record food storage temperatures (fridges, freezers, etc.).
• Support stock rotation and ensure ingredients are properly stored.
• Show new team members how to safely use kitchen equipment.
• Wash up and keep the kitchen spotless after busy lunch rush.
