Job summary

Avon Search is recruiting a Care Home Chef for a 30-bed residential home in Totnes, Devon. The role covers planning and cooking nutritious meals, accommodating dietary needs and maintaining high hygiene standards. Shifts are 8am–6pm, 40 hours over four days per week, with a friendly team environment and a focus on residents' wellbeing.

The successful candidate will understand IDDSI and SFBB and contribute to delicious, well-presented meals that support residents' health and quality of life.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Chef, ideally in a care home or healthcare setting.
• Good knowledge and understanding of IDDSI is essential.
• Good knowledge and understanding of SFBB is essential.
• Strong understanding of food hygiene and safety requirements.
• Experience catering for special dietary requirements is highly desirable.
• Ability to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for residents.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook nutritious, varied and appetising meals for residents.
• Plan and prepare meals in line with residents’ dietary requirements and preferences.
• Cater for special diets, allergies and food intolerances.
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of IDDSI and modified-texture diets.
• Ensure meals are prepared and presented to residents’ individual needs.
• Follow SFBB procedures and maintain accurate food safety records.
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen safety.
• Monitor food temperatures and maintain appropriate records.
• Maintain stock levels and assist with ordering food and kitchen supplies.
• Minimise food waste while maintaining quality and portions.
• Work closely with care staff to understand residents’ dietary needs.
• Ensure kitchen areas and equipment are kept clean and hygienic.
• Follow all food safety, health and infection control procedures.
• Report concerns regarding food, equipment, stock or residents’ dietary requirements.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues and the wider care team.
• Treat residents, visitors and colleagues with courtesy and respect.
