Quantum Scholars is seeking a calm, patient Behaviour Support Mentor to work with a young person in Wokingham, Berkshire. Role involves in-person support at school and home, building trust, setting clear boundaries and promoting emotional regulation.

Qualifications

• This role requires experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour.
• Experience with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Ability to provide one-to-one support in schools, mentoring or youth settings.
• A calm, patient and consistent approach when managing challenging situations.
• Confidence using positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies.
• Understanding importance of clear boundaries, routines and expectations.
• Ability to build positive relationships with young people.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Professionalism, confidentiality and safeguarding commitment.

Responsibilities

• Providing one-to-one behaviour and emotional support to the young person.
• Supporting the young person within the school environment and at home.
• Building a strong, positive and trusting relationship based on consistency and clear boundaries.
• Supporting emotional regulation and helping the young person recognise and manage their emotions.
• Identifying triggers and barriers contributing to challenging behaviour.
• Using strategies to de-escalate situations and reduce challenging behaviour.
• Supporting the young person to develop positive coping strategies.
• Encouraging engagement and participation in education.
• Communicating effectively with parents/carers, school staff and other professionals.
