Job description

Business Support Lead - Care Leavers Service
Role Responsibilities

We are currently recruiting for a Business Support Lead for the 18+ Care Leavers Service.

The Business Support Team provides comprehensive support to the Care Leavers Service and their Personal Advisors, assisting young people with accessing housing, education, training, work experience, and health services. The team also supports young people to make the most of leaving Kent’s care.

The role involves:

  1. Line management of 6 Business Support Officers.
  2. Supporting the Senior Leadership Team with administrative duties, including note-taking for meetings.
  3. Supporting Personal Advisors to effectively support the Care Leavers of Kent.
  4. Assisting the service in meeting the financial commitments of the Care Leavers’ local offer.

Applicants should possess excellent organization and communication skills, with the ability to proactively manage workloads and support the wider team. Previous experience in line management and a strong administrative background are desirable. Good numeracy skills, attention to detail, and adherence to financial procedures are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to undertake training on bespoke databases are required.

The candidate must demonstrate confidence in liaising with professionals and organizations, acting as a contact point for the service, coordinating tasks, and monitoring staff performance. The role is varied and demanding, requiring a calm and organized approach. Flexibility to travel to offices as needed is essential; the team is based in Dover Civic Centre, which will be the contractual base.

This position is customer-facing. The Council has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure post holders have sufficient command of spoken English/Welsh. The post is subject to a Basic Disclosure via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Our Offer includes:

  • Performance-related pay increases
  • Option to enroll in the Local Government Pension scheme
  • 27 days paid annual leave per year, rising to 29 after 5 years, plus bank holidays
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Staff discounts through the Kent Rewards programme
  • Access to staff groups for support and development
  • On-the-job training and regular supervision

We promote flexible working to support work-life balance. Interested? Please apply promptly, as the closing date may be earlier if sufficient qualified candidates apply.
