Business Development Manager – Healthcare Innovation

Position Details
  • Location: Hybrid – 2-3 days/week in central London, remainder remote
  • Travel: 1.5–2 weeks/month across US, Europe & Asia
  • Reporting to: Global Business Development Director
  • Start Date: Q3 2025 (flexible)
The Opportunity

Join an award-winning product-innovation and design consultancy to help expand their presence in global med-tech, diagnostics, and digital health markets. The new Business Development Manager (BDM) will manage the full business development cycle, working with top researchers, engineers, and designers.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Market mapping & lead generation: Identify healthcare startups, OEMs, and blue-chip brands needing R&D and design partners.
  2. Opportunity shaping: Engage with C-suite, R&D, and innovation leaders; develop proposals to de-risk and accelerate market entry.
  3. Proposal & bid leadership: Coordinate SMEs to create proposals, budgets, and timelines; negotiate scope and pricing.
  4. Account stewardship: Build long-term relationships, identify upsell/cross-sell opportunities.
  5. Thought leadership: Represent the company at global events, contribute insights.
  6. Collaboration: Facilitate smooth project hand-offs between teams and clients.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s in engineering, design, biomedical sciences, or similar; Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • Experience: Proven success in healthcare or med-tech business development, with a track record of closing large projects (£1m+) and managing pipelines of £5–10m.
  • Experience as a consultant, designer, or engineer is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel (~35–40%).
  • Strong commercial acumen, data-driven approach, and excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
