Job summary

Philosophy Education is helping a Hornchurch primary school recruit a dedicated BSL Teaching Assistant (Level 2/3) to join their Deaf Provision from September 2026. The role supports deaf and hearing-impaired pupils, fostering inclusion and confidence in classroom learning.

The successful candidate will use British Sign Language to facilitate communication, adapt materials, and work closely with teachers, SEND staff, and families to help pupils reach their potential in an inclusive mainstream

Qualifications

• Qualified BSL Teaching Assistant (Level 2 or 3)
• Experience supporting deaf/hearing-impaired children preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to adapt learning approaches to individual needs
• Strong spoken and written English
• Positive, patient and proactive approach

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with hearing needs within Deaf Provision
• Work with teachers, SEND professionals, speech and language therapists and families
• Use BSL to facilitate communication and learning
• Adapt resources and encourage independence inside and outside the classroom
