Job summary

Ribbons and Reeves Limited in London is seeking a confident BSL Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school, supporting Deaf or hearing-impaired pupils and those who communicate using British Sign Language.

As part of a dedicated team you will work with teachers and SEN staff to ensure pupils access the curriculum, with duties including one-to-one and small-group support, adapting resources and promoting inclusive learning. Start September 2026; full-time, long-term contract.

Qualifications

  • Strong BSL skills and confidence in using sign language.
  • Experience supporting children or young people in SEND or Deaf education.
  • Patient, approachable and an excellent communicator.
  • Understanding of accessible communication.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with pupils.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils across lessons and activities using BSL.

BSL Teaching Assistant Specialist SEND School

A specialist SEND school is looking for a confident and committed BSL Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team and support pupils who are Deaf, hearing impaired or communicate using British Sign Language.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong BSL skills who wants to make a genuine difference to pupils access to education, communication and wider school life.

The Role

As a BSL Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to ensure pupils can fully access the curriculum and communicate effectively throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils across lessons, activities and social situations using BSL
  • Facilitating communication between pupils, teachers and peers
  • Providing targeted one-to-one and small-group support
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, independence and communication skills
  • Supporting classroom activities and adapting resources where required
  • Working closely with teachers, SEN staff and families
  • Promoting an inclusive and positive learning environment
About You

The school is looking for someone who:

  • Has confident BSL skills
  • Has experience supporting children or young people, ideally within SEND, Deaf education or a specialist setting
  • Is patient, approachable and an excellent communicator
  • Understands the importance of accessible communication
  • Can build strong relationships with pupils
  • Is passionate about helping young people achieve their potential

Experience within a Deaf/SEND setting is highly desirable, although candidates with transferable experience and strong BSL skills will be considered.
