Job summary

Arthur Bugler Primary School is seeking a dedicated Communication Support Worker with BSL Level 6 to support deaf and hearing-impaired learners in Key Stage 2 during maternity cover. The role focuses on enabling access to learning and promoting independence through British Sign Language and other communication methods.

You will work closely with teachers and families to deliver intervention programmes, adapt resources and contribute to an inclusive school environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum BSL Level 6 qualification.
• Experience supporting deaf/hearing-impaired pupils is desirable.
• Strong communication skills in sign and spoken language.

Responsibilities

• Enable hearing-impaired students to access learning in classrooms and during activities.
• Provide specialist communication support using BSL and other methods.
• Adapt learning materials to meet individual needs and maximise access to the curriculum.
• Deliver targeted intervention programmes to support communication and language development.
• Monitor progress and maintain records to inform planning.
• Work with teachers, families and external professionals to promote positive outcomes.
