Job summary

Lawes Consulting Group in Glasgow is seeking an experienced Development Underwriter to join our growing SME insurance team. You will develop and manage broker relationships while making underwriting decisions within delegated authority, producing high-quality risk assessments.

The role emphasizes fast-paced service, strong communication, and collaboration with Business Development Managers to grow new business while ensuring TCF compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' underwriting experience within commercial insurance (property/casualty).
• Cert CII or working towards ACII.
• Experience within a delegated authority environment.
• Advanced progression toward ACII preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and underwriting quotations across commercial products in line with appetite and SLAs.
• Handle queries efficiently to support brokers and internal teams.
• Maintain regular communication with Business Development Managers to strengthen broker relationships.
• Act as a referral point for colleagues with lower underwriting authority.
• Collaborate with the wider team to meet SLAs and service standards.
• Respond to broker calls professionally and solutions-focused.
• Operate within delegated underwriting authority and escalate when needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and contribute to business goals.
• Ensure compliance with Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) and regulatory expectations.
