Job summary

Lawes Consulting Group seeks a Development Underwriter for a hybrid, field-based role in the South region of the United Kingdom. You will drive regional growth by cultivating broker partnerships, trading tactically, and applying technical underwriting expertise to profitable portfolios.

You will be responsible for underwriting SME risks, maintaining broker partnerships, and delivering growth targets while balancing on-road visits with office work.

Qualifications

• Proven relationship management experience with brokers and stakeholders.
• Demonstrable capability managing a book of business, delivering financial targets.
• Decisive underwriting approach backed by sound commercial judgement and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Drive new business and portfolio expansion across the South through proactive broker engagement, tactical trading and targeted business development activity.
• Profitably underwrite commercial risks aligned to SME markets, with strong technical judgement and commercial focus.
• Build and maintain trusted long-term partnerships with regional and strategic brokers, influencing outcomes and strengthening competitive position.
• Manage a portfolio of accounts with accountability for financial targets, retention rates and future growth plans.
