Job description

We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this team in the role of Broker Business Development Manager. There is no fixed base location for this role as it is a national position. The associated offices are in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol, and London. The role involves regional travel to conduct regular meetings with Brokers, as well as supporting team leaders and relationship managers.

The UK commercial brokerage team is a newly formed business focused on establishing commercial relationships with intermediaries primarily within the SME market.

The Broker Development Manager will report to the Head of Brokerage but will support teams across the entire UK Business Banking division.

The primary responsibility of the Broker Development Manager is to develop broker relationships. This includes onboarding new brokers to HSBC and expanding relationships with existing brokers.

In this role, you will:

  1. Cultivate and manage relationships with brokers and other introducers to drive business opportunities.
  2. Develop and implement strategies to expand the bank’s network of brokers and introducers.
  3. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely issuance of indicative terms and seamless onboarding of clients introduced by brokers.
  4. Build relationships with Area Directors, Team Leaders, and Relationship Managers, inspiring and motivating colleagues to deliver a consistent broker proposition.
  5. Conduct market research to identify trends, competitor activities, and potential growth opportunities.
  6. Provide training and support to brokers on the bank’s products, credit appetite, and capabilities.
  7. Stay informed about industry regulations and compliance requirements relevant to broker interactions.
  8. Work closely with the marketing team to create targeted campaigns and promotional materials for broker engagement.

To succeed in this role, you should meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Proven experience in business development, especially in financial services.
  2. Ability to interact regularly with brokers and hold strategic conversations addressing complex requirements.
  3. A track record of deal origination and execution via the broker market.
  4. Strong understanding of banking products, services, and financial markets.
  5. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to deliver compelling presentations and build relationships quickly.
  6. Analytical skills to interpret financial data and make strategic recommendations.
  7. Ability to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, with strong planning and organizational skills.
  8. Influencing skills and the ability to build positive relationships with intermediaries, colleagues, and stakeholders.
