Job summary

Butler Rose in Canvey Island is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper to manage a portfolio of around 30 clients and provide high-quality bookkeeping support across multiple sectors. The role involves VAT returns, CIS when required, MTD compliance, and using QuickBooks, Xero, Sage and Excel.

This is an office-based position with a salary of £27,000–£35,000. You will build long-term client relationships, ensure accurate records, and work with a friendly team to deliver excellent service.

Qualifications

• Experience in an accountancy practice.
• Good knowledge of VAT and CIS.
• Experience with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
• Proficient with QuickBooks, Xero, Sage and Excel.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Able to manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of circa 30 bookkeeping clients.
• Process day-to-day bookkeeping for diverse businesses.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns on time and accurately.
• Complete CIS returns when required.
• Support clients with Making Tax Digital compliance.
• Maintain accurate records using multiple software packages.
• Liaise with clients to gather information and resolve issues.
• Collaborate with partners to deliver efficient client service.
• Handle varying workloads across client sizes and deadlines.
