Job summary

Butler Rose is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper for an office-based role in Spalding. You will manage your own workload, handle a varied portfolio of clients, prepare VAT returns, and produce accounts up to trial balance with autonomy within a supportive team.

Experience with Xero and full, unrestricted right to work in the UK are essential; sponsorship is not available. This position offers a friendly environment, CPD opportunities, and on-site parking.

Qualifications

• Good bookkeeping experience, ideally gained within an accountancy practice.
• Experience preparing VAT returns.
• Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
• Experience reconciling balance sheet accounts.
• Confidence communicating directly with clients.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and take responsibility for your own work.
• Positive attitude and willingness to support colleagues.
• Experience preparing accounts to trial balance would be advantageous.
• AAT qualified, studying towards AAT, or qualified by experience.
• Experience with Xero would be particularly useful.
• Full, unrestricted right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

• Preparing bookkeeping records for a varied portfolio of clients.
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns.
• Completing bank and control account reconciliations.
• Reviewing client records and identifying queries or discrepancies.
• Preparing accounts to trial balance stage.
• Assisting with interim and management information.
• Liaising directly with clients to obtain information and resolve bookkeeping queries.
• Working with cloud accounting software, including Xero.
• Supporting the wider accounts and taxation team.
• Managing your own workload and ensuring deadlines are met.
