Job summary

Butler Rose is seeking an experienced bookkeeper for an office-based role in Spalding. You will manage a portfolio of clients, handling bookkeeping and VAT returns with autonomy and direct client contact. The position emphasizes a supportive team environment and professional development.

You will work with Xero and other cloud accounting tools, ensuring accurate records, timely submissions, and strict deadline management, while contributing to the wider accounts and taxation team’s success.

Qualifications

• Experience in an accountancy practice is preferred.
• Experience preparing VAT returns is essential.
• AAT qualification or working towards AAT is required.
• Experience with Xero and cloud accounting is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare bookkeeping records for a varied portfolio of clients.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns.
• Complete bank and control account reconciliations.
• Review client records and resolve discrepancies.
• Prepare accounts to trial balance stage.
• Assist with interim management information.
• Liaise with clients to obtain information and resolve queries.
• Work with Xero and other cloud accounting software.
• Support the wider accounts and taxation team.
• Manage own workload and meet deadlines.
