Job summary

Genomics England is seeking a Bioinformatics Engineer for the Interpretation Platform in the Platform DSS squad. You will develop data platforms powering decision support for cancer and rare diseases, built on AWS and Python, handling data from bioinformatics pipelines with high throughput sequencing data.

You will contribute across development, testing, deployment, and documentation, enabling fast data access for diagnosis and treatment insights while working in an agile squad and adhering to

Qualifications

• MSc equivalent or higher in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Bioinformatics or equivalent experience.
• Experience with Linux, Git and databases (PostgreSQL or similar).
• Experience developing production-quality algorithms and software to analyse large datasets.

Responsibilities

• Produce high-quality code for high throughput sequencing data analysis, genome analysis and interpretation.
• Contribute to all testing and deployment stages up to production.
• Contribute to discovery tasks during initial phase of new developments and inform final software design.
• Write documentation enabling full traceability of processes.
• Be a proactive squad member, adopting agile practices and providing subject matter expertise.
• Ensure adherence to clinical laboratory practice and software delivery standards.
