Job summary

Aspire People is seeking a Behaviour Teaching Assistant to support students in secondary schools in Manchester. Start date is September 2026, with both short-term and long-term opportunities.

You will aid students inside and outside the classroom, helping them overcome barriers to learning and reach their potential. The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, de-escalation of challenging behaviour, and collaboration with teachers and pastoral teams to implement behaviour plans.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people who display challenging behaviour.
  • Experience supporting students with challenging behaviour, SEMH, or SEND.
  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

The Role

As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.

About You
  • Experienced in working with children or young people who display challenging behaviour.
  • Calm, patient, and confident in managing behaviour positively.
  • Resilient, reliable, and able to adapt to different school environments.
  • Passionate about supporting students to succeed both academically and personally.
  • Excellent communicators who can quickly build positive relationships.
Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children or young people in schools, youth work, alternative provision, care, sports coaching, or similar settings.
  • Experience supporting students with challenging behaviour, SEMH, or SEND.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • References covering the last two years.
Desirable Requirements
  • A UK Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Criminology, Youth Studies, Education, or a related subject.
  • Experience working within secondary schools.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management and de‑escalation strategies.
