Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment LTD. is hiring a Behaviour Support Assistant / Mentor for a supportive secondary school in Preston. The role focuses on pupils aged 11-16 with challenging behaviour or SEMH, delivering 1:1 and small-group support to help them stay engaged with learning.

You will de-escalate situations using restorative practice and emotion coaching, and work with Heads of Year and the SENCO to monitor progress.

Qualifications

• Experience with secondary pupils (11-16) displaying challenging behaviour or SEMH.
• High emotional intelligence with firm, fair classroom presence.
• De-escalation skills; Team Teach / MAPA / Restorative Practice desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom-based behaviour management and 1:1/small-group intervention.
• De-escalate heightened situations using restorative practice and emotion coaching.
• Run targeted small-group workshops on anger management, decision-making, conflict resolution and self-esteem.
• Support students in inclusion/ isolation room ensuring academic work and reflective mentoring.
• Build supportive relationships with vulnerable pupils; collaborate with pastoral teams.
