Astro Education in South Manchester is seeking a calm and resilient Behaviour Support Mentor to work within a specialist SEN/SEMH environment. Qualifications

  • Experience working with SEMH and challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with pupils.

  • Experience in education or youth work is desirable.

Behaviour Support Mentor - SEN/SEMH School

Location: South Manchester

Role: Behaviour Support Mentor

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Start Date: Immediate

Route to Permanent: Direct permanent position following a successful induction day

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

Do you have experience working with challenging behaviour and want a role where you can build meaningful relationships and make a genuine difference?

Astro Education are supporting a specialist SEN/SEMH school in South Manchester that is looking to appoint a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Mentor on a full-time, permanent basis.

The school provides a structured, supportive environment with small class sizes, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence, resilience and skills they need to succeed.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Mentor, you will work closely with pupils, teachers and the wider pastoral team to provide consistent support and help young people manage their behaviour and emotions.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Building strong, trusting and positive relationships with pupils.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is calm, confident, consistent and resilient, with a genuine passion for helping young people.

You may have experience as a:
  • Behaviour Support Mentor
  • Teaching Assistant
  • SEN Teaching Assistant
  • SEMH Support Worker
  • Youth Worker
  • Pastoral Support Worker
  • Residential Support Worker
  • Learning Mentor
  • Behaviour Mentor

Experience working with SEMH, challenging behaviour, trauma, vulnerable young people or specialist education would be highly desirable.

Most importantly, you will need to be able to build positive relationships, maintain clear boundaries and remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations.
